Opening up the UK’s foreign and international law collections: the FLARE initiative and Index to Treaties, and the FLAG Foreign Law Guide
An article outlining the work of the FLARE (Foreign Law Research) Group of libraries in the UK - a collaboration between the major libraries collecting law in the United Kingdom: Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (Chair), Bodleian Law Library, Squire Law Library, British Library, and School of Oriental and African Studies. FLARE is working to improve the coverage and accessibility of foreign legal materials at the national level and to raise expertise in their use. The authors provide information about the FLAG (Foreign Law Guide) database of UK libraries holdings of foreign primary law and the Flare Index to Treaties.Preprint of an article by Hester Swift (Foreign and International Law Librarian at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies) and Dr Peter Clinch (Senior Subject Librarian for Law at Cardiff University). Based on a paper originally delivered at the BIALL Annual Conference in Manchester 2009.
